Her participation in the supernatural struggle places her in a precarious position but she has an excellent rationale for her deeds. The fourth novel "Dead to the World" resumes the "Southern Vampire Mysteries" about a month later, nicely tying into the series. Bill's had limited involvement following his introduction, a noticeable observation. Earlier readers have encountered vampires, Were's, and shape shifters, but now witches supply the local challenge with a separate side of fairy. Unfortunately each society thus far has been exposed but not in the depth of the vampire culture, then again the accounts are first person point of view via Sookie.Sookie's New Year's resolution to prevent getting beat up might not happen with her propensity for helping people, especially the supernatural. However Eric continues as the major vampire character and brother Jason might participate more in future novels after this book.The series appears to be young adult with tendencies toward action and suspense, not horror per se. I recommend this collection to any fan of the vampire genre.Thank you.
The Charlaine Harris novels are entertaining to say the least. The simplest way to describe them is by saying that they resemble the Twilight novels with "adult situations". They are superb in their own right and must not be overlooked. Highly recommend.
out of all of them that i have read thus far, this one, HAS to be my favorite. i absolutely love charlaine harris. all of her southern vampire novels just completely rock. its interesting and exciting.and i really enjoyed getting to know.well sort of.eric. he's my favorite character :) im starting the next book today and i can't wait.
"Dead to the World" is the fourth instalment in the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris and makes for a wickedly good read. Sookie takes him home, and makes arrangements with Eric's deputy, Pam to come pick him up later. Sookie decides to provide Eric shelter in return for money that she needs. Bill seems to desire her back in his life, but Sookie is questioning many things - her own real feelings for Bill, the fact that she is fed up of being constantly put in harm's way by her association with other-worldly creatures etc. The dynamics of their relationship made this an interesting and engaging read for me. The pair decide to stay apart for a while. I'd recommend newcomers to the series to start with the first book "Dead Until Dark" and work their way through, cos the characters go through major developments as the series progresses, as do the story arcs.In this fourth book, Sookie Stackhouse is facing problems of the heart with ex-BF, vampire Bill Compton. It turns out Eric was cursed by a coven of witches who want part of his business profits.
However, Sookie's resolve to keep out of harm's way doesn't go very well when she sees a naked guy running on the road on her way home. The guy turns out to be vampire boss Eric, who also seems to be suffering from a bad case of amnesia, and not recognizing who Sookie is. Then things gets more complicated when Sookie's brother, Jason goes missing.In this fourth book, I felt that the Sookie-Eric story arc was particularly compelling as the amnesiac Eric seems like a completely different person than vampire Eric - he seems so much nicer, not being consumed by vampire politics so much, and someone Sookie finds herself being drawn to, though she knows the 'real' Eric is simmering just under the surface. That and the trademark humor that author Harris weaves into the story make this series a winner.
I have to say I was sad when I noticed Bill drifting out of the main story line, but I am glad Eric replaced him, at least in this book. No spoilers. I loved the romance, the mystery, and the appearance of many other supernatural creatures. I am on book 6 of the series and book 4 was definitely my favorite. I very rarely give books fife stars - that ratings is reserved for the very best books - the ones I would read over and over again. Too bad Eric couldn't stay hexed - he was definitely better that way. Definitely one of my favorite series.
